We have our own Fire Festival (AKA Fire Water Festival) going in Sokcho (right across the main road in Expo Park) this week. Luckily, Sokcho officials seem to be a bit brighter than those in Cheongnyeong. All fires here are self-contained.
My son and I were walking about a hundred metres downwind of the fire on Friday evening and walked through a rain of glowing ashes.
Coastal Gangwon should know to be careful of fire and wind, after Naksan burned down. There were firebreaks, big ones, but the wind carried fire further.
